I guess there’s been a reality show for almost everything. But Criminals Gone Wild, a new movie released by group JETSET, goes even further: it documents real criminals kidnapping, stealing and breaking every other law while being knowlingly filmed by a film crew. The movie received a huge media attention and was often marked as sick and absolutely immoral. Well, that’s how you get attention nowadays. Ripped to unusual 439 MB rip.
Criminals Gone Wild is a documentary film directed and produced by Ousala “FD” Aleem through his Brooklyn-based media studio FD Entertainment. The film was originally released and distributed by Aleem in November 2007. The film was later distributed Nationally through MVD. The film chronicled the lives of several alleged criminals on rampages of crime sprees of robberies, assaults, carjacks and murders. The film received huge controversy in the news media regarding the authenticity of the crimes filmed in the movie.

Paramount apparently decided that it would be a great idea to deter and track piracy by silencing random parts of the movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. This seems to be a sort of watermarking technique to be able to identify the cinema the copy of the movie was made.. if the guys who copy the movie are stupid enough to use the same sound source. This is another classic case where the industry is punishing their legit customers and not the ones who copy and download the media. It’s the same case with copy protections and DRM.
The only ones who have to cope with those things are the customers who purchase the products, never heard of any copy protections or DRM in movies, games or music that were available in P2P networks. The commenters at Boing-Boing write about 3-6 random sound drops for a few seconds. Now that would really make me angry and I would definitely ask for a refund on my way out. What’s their next ingenious move, blank out a few scenes ? The cinemas themselves do not seem to have a say in the matter. I would bet that the movie that is available on P2P networks does not have those sound gaps. Wanna bet?

Apple released a hefty security update for the Mac OS X and OS X Server on Wednesday that fixes more than 40 vulnerabilities, a number of which could be exploited to enable someone to run programs on the machine remotely or lead to the disclosure of sensitive data. Security Update 2008-003 is for Mac OS X v 10.4.11 and Mac OS X Server v 10.4.11. The fixes are included in the latest Leopard edition, Mac OS X v 10.5.3, which also was released on Wednesday. The software fixes vulnerabilities that could have led to arbitrary code execution and/or unexpected application termination related implemntaton of: AFP Server, AppKit, Apple Pixlet Video, ATS, CoreFoundation, CoreGraphics, Flash Player Plug-in, Help Viewer, and iCal. The iCal vulnerability was discovered by Core Security, which last week announced it had found three vulnerabilities in iCal.
It also fixes vulnerabilities that could have led to disclosure of sensitive information related to implementation of technologies including CUPS, International Components for Unicode, and CFNetwork when visiting a maliciously crafted Web site due to an issue in Safari’s SSL client certificate handling. In addition, the software fixes a vulnerability that could lead to information disclosure when viewing a maliciously crafted BMP or GIF image and lead to unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution when viewing a maliciously crafted JPEG2000 image file. Security Update 2008-003 and Mac OS X v 10.5.3 are available from Apple’s Software Downloads Web site.

A pretty old scene group Chakra (do you remember their SVCDs?) released a Blu-ray rip of great thriller Cloverfield. I associate this movie mostly with shaky cam which caused dizzy feelings to many people, but it was actually quite original, although the trailer looked more promising than final result. Anyway, this release comes with a special mkv2bluray file which enables you to convert the standard mkv file to burnable Bluray disc, which is playable on PS3 (and on XboX360 in the future), so you don’t have to hassle with reencoding the whole movie.
Cloverfield follows five New Yorkers from the perspective of hand held video camera. The movie is exactly the length of a DV Tape and a sub-plot is established by showing bits and pieces of video previously recorded on the tape that is being recorded over. The movie starts as a monster of unknown origin destroys a building. As they go to investigate, parts of the building and the head of the Statue of Liberty come raining down. The movie follows their adventure trying to escape and save a friend, a love interest of the main character.

The electronics maker said Tuesday that it will work with six major cable operators to include digital cable technology in its next-generation television sets. With the new sets, consumers will no longer be required to use a set-top box in order to receive advanced services. Sony has penned an agreement with Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, Charter, Cablevision, and Bright House Networks, which collectively provide service to about 82 percent of cable-receiving households. The agreement is essentially a memorandum of understanding on how channel guide and digital program delivery technology will be rolled out to the consumer. The technology used is called tru2way (formerly known as OpenCable or OCAP), which first rolled out at CES in January. At the time, Sony was not listed among the partners, although Panasonic and LG showed off television models based on the technology.
Peripherally, the technology is related to CableCARD, and the company behind tru2way — CableLabs — is behind both. The difference here is that CableCARD is a removable unit for retail devices, whereas tru2way is the middleware that provides for the control of functionality. The technology eliminates the need for an additional converter or receiver box, simplifying the cable installation process and allowing for the use of advanced features such as on-demand, DVR functions, and program guides. Sony’s move could very well solidify tru2way as the standard for non-set top deployments. While CableCARD was intended to do the same thing, it did not garner enough support from the industry to make it viable. Too bad it’s impossible to do something like this for Europe as well…

Didn’t have to wait long for the jump, and there you go. Release quality of this seemingly crap comedy is quite average, as the film runs 112 minutes long, but DiAMOND chose to pack it into 1 CD. Video bitrate is 695k and audio is normal MP3.

The first unofficial TurboGrafx-16 emulator has hit the iPhone, and it functions quite well to say the least. Continue reading for a video demonstration.
As you can see from the embedded video, the emu is already plenty impressive. Unlike its GP2X counterpart, there’s no support for CD-based game images, but compatibility with TG-16 ROMs is said to be high.
