allways i got an error when i want to start episode 2 ( MountAppsystem() faild: )
that is the path from my shortcut. i think i`ve done everything right.
“F:\HL2\new folder\half-life 2 episode two\hl2.exe” -steam -game ep2
it won`t work !!

for all of those who have the MountAppFilesystem() ERROR. thingy
i found a solution that worked for me and several other ppl so it must be it! (havent tried for half life 2 episode two yet though, only portal)
go into the game folder where the shortcut is supposed to be and open with notepad: SteamEmu
read down until it says: “MountCacheManual = 400 something and change it to MountCacheManual = 405
in the end it should look like this:
MountCacheManual = 405
;With this you can manually mount cache files, but you will need the CacheID to mount optional caches.
tell me if it works for you cause here theres no problems

I’ve heard a lot of things spoken about rectifying the MountAppsystem() faild: error message. If you want my opinion, just purchase the game. There is a fix filename: vlp-ep2f.rar that some people use to address the issue, some people do searches for registry links to ensure they target the right location, others just remove steam entirely and others update their graphics drivers like nvidia forceware 163.75 or equivalent. Just buy it - it’s a great purchase anyway and removes the problem of resolving technical ailments.
The solution to MOUNTAPP… is:
Do not copy the gcfs inside “half life 2-episode 2″ folder!!!. Sorry for my bad english

I achieved to make the shortcut work but the game loaded sucks…It seems like its a f** up version of HL2 (episode nothing) and I cant even load a goddamn level. It has some weapon icons and I have an extra option in the menu named Achievments… Help me please, I’m dying
hey. i had the exact same problem. i fixed it by, downloading the new ATI drivers. i also edit’d the SteamEmu file and all i did was change the username and email address (just so it was different) and then when i loaded the game, the console said it was redownloading lightmaps, and next thing i know the game works. thanks unleashed! A+. game looks and plays GREAT. if that doesnt work, buy it.

I have the mountapp failed problem and i’ve tried everyones solutions and so far i have failed with each one. It’s quite aggrevating but im trying to stick to it due to the fact i love this game, If i had money i would purchase the game but im too poor so i cannot. if anyone else has possible solutions please post em
I am a big problem with this unleashed version.
When i starting half life i am the introduction ( valve ) and when i am a picture with loading but i am a small windows with this message “CSceneFileCache : Bad scene image file scenes/scenes.image” he don’t want to start the game loading.
Please help me !!!

When I do it it says
Failed to launch DLL:
The specified module cannot be found
This is very simple.
Open the downloaded folder. extact the file unl-ep2.r01(anything other than .r00).
If the extracted folder size is something like 8 gb, (otherwise try again),
add the parameter “….hl2.exe” -steam -game ep2 to target at the shortcut.
open it and It will work.
If the extracted folder is not 8 gb this process will not work. It worked fine for me
If you are getting the MountAppsystem error, you are missing files
you have to extract the all game files from the “unl-ep2.rar” file
and NOT from any of the unl-ep2.r00, unl-ep2.r01, unl-ep2.r02…
enable the “show file extension”, the unleasehd torrent itself is complete
Hey i’m dealing with a little problem here.
I’ve extracted the game in a folder ex. {x:/HL2ep2}.
Here my problem —————————–>
I launch game with no problem show far so good.
BUT when i choose new game in loading section the system freeze at the end of loading section and i get this MESSAGE FROM MY NVIDIA GRAPHIC CARD
—->NVidia driver has stopped working. Please reboot the computer<——
(MY nvidia forceware is 163.75) (My card meets the game specifications)
So what’s the F*******G problem???

I still have mountappsystem() error, I use vista, I have installed HL2 collectors edition.
I have extracted files and they are 8.58gb’s. My .gfc files are not in hl2 ep2 folder. “MountCacheManual is 405. ” Is ep1 needed to play ep2? ((I can’t wait to play the game, I guess I’m gonna buy it :)))

What is with all those .gcf files ? Do we have to manually unpack them ?
I’m still getting the mountappsystem() error but is that because the files haven’t been extracted ?
Inside the folder, “D:\Program Files\Valve\Half Life 2 The Orange Box”, there’s a batch file called “setup.bat”. Just load it and it’ll extract the necessary files for episode 2 specifically. I’m very sure this works, especially those who obtained it from the way i did =) good luck and happy shootin’
Here’s two simple steps to get it working:
1) Copy the missing txt file (if asked for) from the “hl2″ or “ep2″ subfolders
2) Run the file called “start.bat”
The game works like magic!

WTF? It crashes before loading First Screen: Game needs directx 8 so I can run it.
But I have Directx 9? Do I have to Downgrade DirectX__?
so I have tried both shortcut and run command with -steam -game ep2 shit, now it says:
ENGINE ERROR
No permissions to run ep2
So, if yoou wanna get thinks work unpack unl-ep2.rar not unl-ep2.r00
Then create shortcut on hl2.exe on desktop, right click on the hl2.exe>sent to>Desktop (create shortcut)
Then right click on the shortcut and Properties>Shortcut and you will see “Target”, change that to “C:\Program Files\half-life 2 episode two\hl2.exe” -steam -game ep2
Then run the Shortcut and Enjoy the game
i cant even find these two files which u said to unpack, i downloaded hl2 ep2 from the steam store thing, and cant find any files.
i get the same error:
“engine error - No permission to run ep2″

To fix the MOUNTAPP problem its very simple
extract since .rar files dont start with .00
What is wrong here?
I extracted from unl-ep2.rar (not .00 or w/e) the episode 2 folder, it’s directory is C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\elite117217\half-life 2 episode two
as for the .gcf files I put them with my other half life .gcf’s in C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps
I also tried the MountCacheManual = 405 and SteamAppsDir = .\ thingy in SteamEmu.ini
I still get MountAppFilesystem() failed:
What am I missing / doing wrong?
