The American Super Bowl XLII (42) is set to be broadcast next weekend Feb 3rd. The New England Patriots (16-0) will be facing off against the New York Giants (10-6) at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The half-time show is nothing that our generation would care about, as Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers perform. With the posting of this greatest super bowl commercials 2008, I wanted to take the chance to prepare those in advance for when the super bowl has finished airing.

Don’t fret about missing the game on TV, because shortly after (within the next day or earlier) there will be scene releases of the super bowl. (so no crappy home-made taping is required!) Also the scene releases will give you an opportunity to archive, burn and watch or examine the game at a later date. Also for people who don’t have the proper TV channels or just don’t watch TV and download it, this is the way to go. Typically, the PDTV version will arrive first (which was 3CDs in size for the PDTV version last year, by GORE. Shortly after this, the HDTV version should arrive, which will be in WideScreen 624×352 rather than 512×384 FullScreen. The HDTV rip will also be 3CDs or 2100MB, like last year’s release by FQM. For those with modern CPUs, you will be able to playback the high-definition version of the super bowl, which this year should be released in 720p x264. Note this version will be in the multiple giga-bytes. This release should arrive last, but if you can wait then you will be rewarded with perfect high-def quality.

Second, due to the long running time and file sizes of the scene releases (in order to preserve quality) public torrents will just not cut it, unless you want to wait a week for them to finish downloading. The fastest ways to get the rips will be to register to a good private torrent site that uploads TV torrents. Private torrent sites force you to play ‘by the rules’ and this way everyone can download fast, rather than public trackers that newbs use and can’t figure out why their downloads are so slow all the time. A good place to look is here.

Greatest Commercials 2008 of the Super Bowl, does not show the commercials for the current 2008 superbowl, rather it shows past ads. Since almost everyone watches the super bowl on tv, the cost of a 30-second commercial is set at USD $2.7 million. That’s $90,000 a second! Every year, (including this year, blah blah spoiler stfu) The Coke ‘Mean Joe Green’ wins.

A retrospective on the most memorable ads aired during the Super Bowl. The best commercial is chosen by viewers who vote via the Internet. Hosts: Jim Nantz and Daisy Fuentes.
